Teacher Monica Grimard introduced the Hesperia High School students who created the new “Reclaimed Beauty” mural that was presented to the community on Thursday, June 5 at Vida Weaver Park on the banks of the White River. Students created the leaping steelhead and the river setting with recycled, reused and refound materials.
The project was funded by a grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council, through TrueNorth Community Services. Grimard thanked the local people who helped find materials and build the structure. Russ Baker (with his dog, below) helped with the construction work.
This is the first of a two-phase project, with a similar student-made mural scheduled to be added later to the other side of the fenced area.
